Demographics and Calls for Service in Arlington, VA

How does local law enforcement's cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) affect community trust with police? To look at this question, I used data that tracked the number of ICE Detainer Requests, the percent of compliance, and the number of calls for service by demographics in Arlington County. Arlington County is interesting because it faced three policy periods: (1) Post-2008, when a neighboring county enacted a 287(g)- cooperative- agreement with ICE; (2) October 2010-March 2011, when they tried to drop out of Secure Communities- a sanctuary policy. This WAS well-publicized; and (3) Post-2015 when they informally denied more detainer requests, identifying them as a sanctuary county. This WAS NOT well-publicized.
